As many people know from reading the stories posted on the anniversary of an officers death, Chief James Mitchell was the first officer killed in the line of duty on Dec 25th, 1905. It was also a little known fact that Chief Mitchell was buried in an unmarked grave in the Greenwood Cemetery at 11 Av S and 9 St S. Heroes of St Pete Police knew this was something that had to be taken care, and a headstone will be placed on the grave site of Chief Mitchell on May 12th, 2017 at 0900 hours. There will be a small dedication ceremony that is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. Greenwood Cemetery entrance is located at Highlands Street South & 11th Ave South in Roser Park Neighborhood.
